You need no computer, no account, and no knowledge of the subject. You have two paper packets, and the whole period is in them.
What you were handed#
The student packet holds a one-page reading set in an invented scenario, four discussion questions, and a short worksheet. It contains no answers.
The teacher packet is your copy. It repeats the reading and questions and adds short answers to each question, notes on running the period, and guidance on what a good worksheet answer looks like.
How to run the period#
- Hand out one student packet each and keep your own.
- Let students read the page on their own. Read it aloud only if the class needs a shared start.
- Put students in pairs on the four discussion questions. The answers in your packet are there so you can tell whether a pair is on track, not to be read out.
- Bring the class together and take answers to one or two questions from different pairs.
- Give the rest of the period to the worksheet, done individually.
Anyone who finishes early can write one sentence about what the reading could not tell them.
What to leave behind#
Collect the worksheets into one pile with a note carrying the date and the period. On the back of your packet, add how far the class got, which question caused the most trouble, and the names of anyone absent or stuck.
Worth knowing#
The reading is fiction on purpose, so nobody is at a disadvantage for missing earlier lessons. You do not need to mark anything, and Trace does not assign a grade for this work.
If students ask to use the Trace website, the answer is no today. This lesson runs on paper, and their online work continues when their teacher is back.
