1. What cookies are#
Cookies are small files stored on your device. Trace uses them to keep you signed in and, with your consent, collect analytics. This policy also covers browser storage used for preferences, sign-up, and saved work.

2. Your choices#
Analytics and session replay are off by default. On your first visit, the cookie banner offers these choices:
- Essential only keeps optional tracking off.
- Accept analytics enables product analytics without enabling session replay.
- Choose what to share opens the settings for each category. Session replay requires a separate opt-in and can only run with analytics enabled.
You can change or withdraw consent through Cookie preferences in the footer. Withdrawing analytics consent stops collection and clears the stored analytics identifier. Your choice is saved in your browser.
Activity before consent is not recorded for later submission.
3. Cookie table#
Essential cookies#
WorkOS provides sign-in cookies. Blocking them prevents you from signing in.

Analytics is sent to PostHog through Trace's server. Signed-in users are identified by account ID and role, without names, email addresses, school, or class details. Anonymous visitors have no stored person profile. We remove query strings from recorded URLs and referrers, and session replay masks typed inputs.

Cal.com loads and sets cookies only after you select Load the scheduler on /contact/meeting. See Cal.com's privacy policy.
There are no other third-party cookies on Trace.
Trace does not use advertising cookies, ad pixels, retargeting tags, or cross-site tracking, and does not sell or share data with ad networks.
4. Browser storage#
The entries below store preferences, saved work, and sign-up details in your browser. They are not used for tracking.
Local storage#
These entries remain until you clear site data.

On shared devices, trace.lab.* entries persist after sign-out. Clear site data between users or use a private window.
Session storage#
These entries hold sign-up details until the account is created or the tab closes.

5. Managing cookies yourself#
Your browser's privacy settings let you block cookies or clear Trace's site data. Blocking essential cookies prevents sign-in. Clearing site data removes saved preferences and local lab backups, and the cookie banner will ask for your choice again.
To change analytics or replay consent without clearing saved work, use Cookie preferences in the footer.
6. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control#
Trace does not currently respond to the Do Not Track header. Use Cookie preferences to control analytics and replay. Trace does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, so a Global Privacy Control opt-out does not change those practices.
7. Changes to this policy#
We update this policy when our use of cookies changes. If we add a new category of optional cookie, we ask for consent again.
